POWER GIFTS

Faith, Healing and Mircales

In I Corinthians 12:1 Paul says:
1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I do not want you to be ignorant:
The power gifts however are very hard to teach as they are not a resident gifting that we can use at any time as we do the other six gifts. Or if they are within us, we do not know how to ignite them at will as yet. So far they work only as the dunamis power of God comes on us. The word dunamis is found in the Greek section of the Strongs, number 1411, meaning:
power, great might, force, great ability, strength.
This power is extended by God to accomplish the impossible.

GIFT OF FAITH

There are several different types of faith described in scripture, but the gift of faith is in a category of its own. The gift of faith for instance is different from the shield of faith which we can, as we mature, trust in to shield us from the enemy.
Ephesians 6:16
16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
It is different still from the measure of faith that is given to each of us to work in the gifts, and yes, different even from our faith in God's sovereignty and His Word. These are all manifestations of faith that come forth from a heart of conviction that knows the Word and its author. Jesus is our example in Matthew 21:21-22.
Matthew 21:21-22
21 So Jesus answered and said to them, "Assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what was done to the fig tree, but also if you say to this mountain, Be removed and be cast into the sea, it will be done.
22 "And whatever things you ask in prayer (you must know the word to know God's will), believing (this heart must be convicted God's word is true), you will receive."
But the above faith is not the gift. You see, the gift of faith is not ours, it is a gift that causes us to perform the impossible and produces a miracle. When God enables us with spontaneous ability to subdue or conquer physical forces, it is the gift of faith that causes us to step out in the incredible and without even thinking, bringing about a feat mortal man cannot accomplish himself. Peter experienced this gifting, but then allowed the spirit of fear to enter and hindered the miraculous gift he was walking in.
Matthew 14:28-31
28 And Peter answered Him and said, "Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water."
29 So He said, "Come (He gave Peter the gift of faith)." And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus (There is no way water can support us unless frozen).
30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, "Lord, save me (he thwarted the gift and was now acting on his own intellect and responding from a heart that lacked conviction) !"
31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, "O you of little faith, why did you doubt?"
We can say it this way, when the gift of faith is operating in you, it is as if you are not connected to the physical so the supernatural seems natural and you just move out in it. Jesus demonstrated using the gifting properly in Matthew 8:23-27
Matthew 8:23-27
23 Now when He got into a boat, His disciples followed Him.
24 And suddenly a great tempest arose on the sea, so that the boat was covered with the waves. But He was asleep.
25 Then His disciples came to Him and awoke Him, saying, "Lord, save us! We are perishing!"
26 But He said to them, "Why are you fearful, O you of little faith (there was not enough conviction in their hearts so they feared)?" Then He arose and rebuked the winds and the sea, and there was a great calm.
27 So the men marveled, saying, "Who can this be, that even the winds and the sea obey Him (one with the gift of faith on Him)?"

GIFT OF HEALING

When Jesus died on the cross for mankind, restoration for all that was lost in the garden was provided for. Because of the first couple's disobedience, among many other things, divine health was lost. People would now grow old and eventually die and all of creation would suffer corruption and decay. At Calvary however, positionally, all things were restored and Jesus made healing, both spiritually and physically, possible for all of creation.
Acts 3:6-7 is a good example of the physical:
6 Then Peter said, "Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk."
7 And he took him by the right hand and lifted him up, and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength.
One day there will be no sickness at all among us, but until that time healing manifests itself in many different ways. There is the prayer of the elders for the flock, and inner healing as the result of the prayers of God's Isaiah ministers, but neither of these are the power gift of healing.
James 5:14-16
14 Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord.
15 And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven (example of spiritual healing).
16 Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another (as in the Isaiah 61 ministry), that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.
There are even divinely assisted situations where a person is healed by God through doctors and medical treatments. Apostle Luke was a physician in the early church, and there are those that God will use today as human instruments, but guess what, this is still not the gift of healing.
The gift of healing is not intellectually based, nor is it the result of spiritual insight. In fact, it is a supernatural phenomenon that can happen without any human intervention at all. It can of course also manifest through a human vessel, if God so chooses. He can release a supernatural ability or a divine power for man to exercise authority over impossible situations like broken bones, fatal sicknesses, even death. People have been given hearts, feet, all sorts of new body parts that only the Creator can supply. This is the true gift of healing. It is not an ability performed through faith, nor is even there time for doubt or unbelief. It simply manifests itself according to God's will, and the vessel being used moves out in the gift without question.

WORKING OF MIRACLES

When we work in the miraculous, we are walking in the power of God and exercising authority over the natural forces of this realm. The power gift of miracles enables us to perform feats way beyond what is even comprehensible to our human minds.
In Exodus 14:14-16 let us look at what Moses said to Israel,
14 "The LORD will fight for you, and you shall hold your peace."
15 And the LORD said to Moses, "Why do you cry to Me? Tell the children of Israel to go forward.
16 "But lift up your rod, and stretch out your hand over the sea and divide it. And the children of Israel shall go on dry ground through the midst of the sea. (Was this not a neat example of the power of God!)
Both spiritual and physical laws were defeated by these miraculous feats of God to produce what we call miracles. To us these things are all weird and supernatural, but to God they are quite normal. The gift of miracles does not necessarily have to have a human vessel to operate through either. The Lord may use anything including angels as His agents.
Psalm 91:11
11 For He shall give His angels charge over you, To keep you in all your ways.
Many times these miracles may go unnoticed or unseen as when the angels protect us from traffic, turn bad weather from us, or even ward off an attack from the enemy without our even being aware. Yes, miraculous deeds are performed through God's servants, both man and angels, or even donkeys, in order to prove His word and make people trust in Him and His ability to save us from all situations.
Acts 5:17-20
17 Then the high priest rose up, and all those who were with him (which is the sect of the Sadducees), and they were filled with indignation,
18 and laid their hands on the apostles and put them in the common prison.
19 But at night an angel of the Lord opened the prison doors and brought them out, and said,
20 "Go, stand in the temple and speak to the people all the words of this life."
Imagine what the prison guards thought the next morning when they found the cell empty!
Numbers 22:24-33 proves that the miraculous can even work through animals.
24 Then the Angel of the LORD stood in a narrow path between the vineyards, with a wall on this side and a wall on that side.
25 And when the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD, she pushed herself against the wall and crushed Balaam's foot against the wall; so he struck her again.
26 Then the Angel of the LORD went further, and stood in a narrow place where there was no way to turn either to the right hand or to the left.
27 And when the donkey saw the Angel of the LORD, she lay down under Balaam so Balaam's anger was aroused, and he struck the donkey with his staff. (Balaam probably felt quite self-righteous in doing this. After all, the donkey is not as intelligent as he was - or was she?)
28 Then the LORD opened the mouth of the donkey (a miracle, she could talk), and she said to Balaam, "What have I done to you, that you have struck me these three times?"
29 And Balaam said to the donkey, "Because you have abused me. I wish there were a sword in my hand, for now I would kill you (Balaam could hear the donkey, a miracle)!"
30 So the donkey said to Balaam, "Am I not your donkey on which you have ridden, ever since I became yours, to this day? Was I ever disposed to do this to you?" And he said, "No."
31 Then the LORD opened Balaam's eyes (the next miracle), and he saw the Angel of the LORD standing in the way with His drawn sword in His hand and he bowed his head and fell flat on his face.
32 And the Angel of the LORD said to him (Balaam could hear and talk to the angel), "Why have you struck your donkey these three times? Behold, I have come out to stand against you, because your way is perverse before Me (As a side note: We also can learn from these scriptures that God does not like abuse to the animals).
33 "The donkey saw Me and turned aside from Me these three times. if she had not turned aside from Me, surely I would also have killed you by now, and let her live (if the animal, even though being abused, had not protected the man, God would have killed him)."
Who showed more love, the donkey or the man? We saw quite a few miracles in these few passages of scripture however, in getting back to our subject matter.

CONCLUDING REMARKS

The power gifts, along with the communication and revelatory gifts, are just a little taste of the power, that the "age to come" promises us. There will be a time when those that are a part of the church triumphant will walk from time into eternity, become immortal and this power will be a part of their normal everyday life. All creation waits eagerly for this, as there will be a total restoration for all that is on this planet.
Romans 8:19-21
19 For the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
20 For the creation was subjected to futility, not willingly, but because of Him who subjected it in hope;
21 because the creation itself also will be delivered from the bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
What a miracle!
